[WATCH] Moment Polokwane athlete sets SA record
PEPPS Gr 7 learner Phuthuma Kwena Matlala is the new SA u/13 high jump record holder.
POLOKWANE – The South African u/13 high jump record, that stood for 22 years, has been improved.
PEPPS Gr 7 learner Phuthuma Kwena Matlala participated in the Athletics South Africa Primary Schools Championship in Potchefstroom on Saturday (March 26).
To the excitement of the crowd Matlala cleared the bar at 1.75 to improve the new record from the previous 1.74m.
According to SuperSport Schools, Raydon Williams from Laerskool Montagu (second) and Jean Serfontein from Welgemoed Primary School (third) also cleared the 1.75m jump, but Matlala was declared the winner on count back.

PEPPS Preparatory head of sport Theo Clark congratulated Matlala. “The achievement is the result of his hard work and diligence to his craft as well as the support and motivation that he has received from his family. We couldn’t be prouder of his remarkable achievement,” he added.
