Staff members of Zimbabwe’s Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) recently visited the University of Limpopo (UL) to gather information about the School of Accountancy (SoA)’s Accounting Science programme as the academy intends to introduce a similar qualification.
According to UL SoA acting Director, Blessy Sekome the visit afforded Zimbabwe’s only institution accredited to offer the Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) an opportunity to explore every avenue towards forming an undergraduate degree in Accounting Science.
A press release issued by Johannes Selepe, acting Senior Publications Officer at UL, quoted Sekome to have said they were humbled as institution to serve as a benchmark in the Southern African Development Community.
“This great initiative complements the internationalisation goals of the university and also accords with our motto of ‘Finding solutions for Africa’.
Anesu Daka, founder of the academy reportedly said their aim was to provide accounting solutions to upcoming chartered accountants in Zimbabwe.
“We see the UL as ideal to collaborate with given its historical background. The university is a previously disadvantaged institution and is familiar with, and understands the challenges of our people. It has also made significant inroads in developing the accountancy profession and offering competitive qualifications.”
“We believe that UL will provide the much-needed support, ensure consistency in quality of resources and enhance the international appeal and recognition of their graduates through the development of study material for their envisioned undergraduate programme,” the statement read.
