Daycare collects sanitary packs for women in need
Community members are urged to donate sanitary products to help fight period poverty.
For Women’s Month, Sunflower Lane Daycare is collecting sanitary products to give back to girls and women in need, and they are urging the community to be involved.
According to principal Nureena Timm, since their opening in 2015, they’ve adopted foundations or charity organisations to work with every month.
For this particular drive, the daycare is supporting the Giving with a Purpose Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Eldorado Park that is dedicated to feeding vulnerable families, distributing clothing, and providing sanitary products to women and children in need.
Nureena said one of the key focuses of the initiative is addressing period poverty among young girls in underprivileged communities.
“Many girls in underprivileged communities simply cannot afford the sanitary products they need. Through this initiative, we also aim to educate them about their reproductive health while helping to alleviate period poverty,” she said.
Over the years, the daycare centre has been involved in numerous community outreach initiatives, consistently giving back and making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.
The team has also participated in the Women with Purpose Awards, which recognise and celebrate women who are making a lasting impact in their respective communities.
“There is a great need out there, and we always try to get involved with charities to see how we can make a difference,” Nureena said.
Donations for the drive can be dropped off at 55 Shamrock Street, Florida.
