The South African Football Association (SAFA) has offered their condolences to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) following the death of more than 40 people in a bomb blast during a football match.

The tragic scenes occurred in the town of Mubi, Adamawa State on Sunday, 1 June, which tragically saw the loss of over three dozen people.

SAFA President Dr Jordaan wrote a letter to addressed to NFF President, Mr. Maigari Amunu, claiming the incident should be condemned in its entirety.

“On behalf of the South African Football Association, I would like extend our condolences to the Nigerian Football Federation and the people of Nigeria for their loss,” said Dr Jordaan.

“It is indeed shocking that people who have gathered in peace to watch a game of football should be targeted in this manner. May the families of the deceased find peace and grace in this time of sorrow.

“We also want to pledge our solidarity with the people of Nigeria in the search for the school girls abducted by Boko Haram on 14 April, 2014. We hope and pray that the children are returned to their families safe and unharmed.”

He concluded by saying: “We wish the Nigerian people everlasting peace, prosperity and freedom from strife.”
