Swim champ chases dreams and wins races

Swimming junior champ exceeds her expectations and qualifies for nationals.

“Life is better in the water,” said Eliecia Chivandire, a Grade Eight learner at Charter College International who took part in the Swimpartners Championship on February 10 and showcased her raw talent as a SA National Junior swimming champion.

She registered her personal bests and qualified for in all her races claiming the top three positions.

She placed second in her 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly, followed by a third placement for 50m freestyle. Eliecia’s 100m backstroke performance of 1:13:38 was very significant because it beat the South Africa National Junior qualifying time. As a result, she qualified for the nationals, which will take place from March 15–19, at Kings Park Pool in Durban.
