Park runners don’t melt: 600 races under Len Rutter Park’s belt

Parkrunners celebrate 600th run at Len Rutter Park.

Len Rutter Park reached a milestone of its own the past weekend as it played host to its 600th weekly parkrun.

Runners made the best of the day and enjoyed the cooler weather, despite being soaked due to the incessant rain that continued unabated over the past few days.

The rain did impact parkrun numbers significantly, though, and only 94 runners were brave enough to take on the challenge on the day.

First place went to Born 2 Run Athletics Club runner Stephan Koch, who finished still looking fresh in a very respectable 19:56.

His closest competitor, Munyaradzi Hluyo, came in nearly five minutes later, crossing the line in 22:22, with third place going to David Brown, running under the banner of Florida Lake Canoe Club, with a time of 23:50.

The top five was rounded out with Chris Jansen and Panashe Phiri, finishing in 24:13 and 26:03, respectively.

Sarah Wright, in her 120th parkrun, took the top spot in the women’s category, finishing seventh overall in a time of 26:08, thereby setting herself a new personal best time.

She was followed by Anna Britz in 12th place, who finished in a time of 29:37.

Over the 600 events held at Len Rutter Park over the years, it has seen 27 871 runners achieve a total of 264 775 finishes, among which 38 773 personal best times, which was overseen by 1 520 volunteers.
