Parkrun popular despite cold weather
Hundreds of runners descended on Len Rutter Park for the weekly parkrun.
The Roodepoort parkrun continues to draw huge crowds despite the colder weather, with nearly 500 people taking to the course at Len Rutter Park this past Saturday.
This week saw 41 first-timers joining the event, proving once again that the parkrun is one of the biggest drawcards in Roodepoort.

As always, the run was overseen by 31 volunteers, making sure runners are safe and that the event goes off without a hitch.

Parkrun veterans Winston Donachie and Carmen Walker-Campbell completed their 560th and 523rd runs, respectively.
Other significant milestones reached included Gabrielle Hugli, who finished her 450th parkrun, Adéle Bloem with 250, and Dean Spanodi, Pieter Durand and Altea van der Merwe, who had managed 50 each.

First place this week went to relative newcomer, Nkosinathi Jacob Dlamini, who crossed the finish line in 17.55, with second place going to first timer Julient Mgiba (18.22).
Panashe Phiri and Charlie Strydom both set personal best times in third and fourth position with 20.50 and 22.10, respectively.

Florida Lake Canoe Club runner Peter Wilfred Loudon Brown took fifth position with 22.11.
Maryna Bijker was first to cross the line in the women’s category, finishing in fifth place overall in a time of 22.50.
Of the 477 runners on Saturday, 74 managed to set their personal best times.
