Mixed petrol price predicted for June

The Automobile Association (AA) has warned of a mixed fuel price for June with a slight decrease in the price of petrol, but yet another uptake in the price of diesel.

Commenting on unaudited data released by the Central Energy Fund on Wednesday (15 May), the AA said a slightly weaker Rand versus the US Dollar and slipping international oil prices point to a seven cents a litre drop in the price of petrol, but a 12 cents rise in diesel with illuminating paraffin forecasted to go up by nine cents.

“However, we remind [consumers] that the forthcoming Carbon Tax is due for introduction on June 5, and will add an additional nine cents a litre to the petrol price, and ten cents to the diesel price. Our hope is that the new government will immediately set out its policy agenda which has a direct impact on fuel prices,” the AA said.

Towards the end of business on Thursday (16 May), the national currency was trading at R14.17 to the greenback with Brent Crude Oil at $71.95 a barrel.
