“I started walking with my dog during the first periods of lockdown at the Spruit. I noticed that somebody started a flower bed. As I was walking down, I realised that it was a bit neglected, so I thought to myself what can I possibly do? That’s where the project developed. We have been going for a year now and I think that we have done an amazing job.”

Williams welcomed the Scouts with open arms as they helped pick up litter around the area. Locals joined in on the initiative as more bags were filled with polystyrene, plastic, paper, cardboard and cans.

Troop Scout of 1st Bryanston Scout Group Dieters Eckert said, “We are very much involved with our community, especially with river clean-ups as part of community service for our Scouts.

When this opportunity came to our group through one of our pack Scouters, I thought that all the 1st Scout Groups could offer a helping hand in the area. More hands mean more help. We thank Gale Williams for what she’s doing for her community, it is inspiring.”
