Ward 106 councillor Chris Santana has taken a moment to reflect on the past year, sharing both New Year greetings and encouragement for the year ahead.
“Over the Christmas season, I extended warm wishes to all residents, hoping it was a time of peace, joy, and cherished moments with loved ones,” Santana said. “Now, as we step into 2026, it is a time to look forward with hope, determination, and a renewed commitment to our community.”

He emphasised the potential of the new year. “2026 is a chance for renewal and growth. May it be filled with opportunities, good health, and success for all. By building on our strengths and supporting one another, we can work toward a brighter future for everyone in Ward 106.”
Looking back, Santana acknowledged the challenges the ward faced in 2025, particularly in service delivery.
Key issues included:
- Delayed repairs to water infrastructure, with some reinstatements pending for over a year. Ongoing infrastructure decay and insufficient funding continue to hinder progress.
- Persistent problems with potholes, malfunctioning traffic lights, and road degradation. Despite our efforts, only a limited portion of road resurfacing was completed in 2025, leaving many motorists and residents frustrated.

- Safety and security remain a priority. Many areas supplied by Eskom have experienced extended periods without streetlighting due to City Power’s non-payment of accounts. I have engaged City Power to clarify budget allocations for the replacement of streetlights with solar alternatives.
- The multi-dwelling sewerage charge has raised concerns regarding fairness for Sectional Title Owners. I have formally questioned the city’s methodology and calculation basis and initiated a petition for affected residents, advocating for a transparent and equitable resolution.

“While 2025 presented significant challenges, it also highlighted the resilience and spirit of our community,” Santana said.
“By continuing to engage, advocate, and support each other, we can make Ward 106 a stronger, safer, and more inclusive place in 2026.”
