The Gauteng provincial croquet championship yielded positive results for CCJ Woodmead
AUCKLAND PARK– Victor Dladla from CCJ Woodmead won the open singles croquet championship.
Country Club Johannesburg (CCJ) in Woodmead has much to celebrate as their croquet champ Victor Dladla walked away from the Gauteng provincial championship with the coveted open singles title.
Held at CCJ in Auckland Park from 20 to 22 March, Dladla has a long history of representing South Africa but winning this time was definitely no walk in the park.
The social media and marketing manager for CCJ, Chelsea Kruck was excited about Dladla’s achievement.
“Our very own Victor Dladla is the full-time croquet club administrator who ensures that the lawns are beautifully maintained at all times. With a tremendous resume of international competitions and numerous wins, Victor is also available for coaching,” she said.
It was an entertaining and close final as 80-year-old veteran Mike Corcoran pushed Dlalda to the end. The score was 10–8 with Dladla winning the cup.
Both players have represented South Africa in international croquet events.
Chris Wakeham who is the chairman of the croquet section managed the event well and heard favourable comments from the spectators. With all Covid-19 restrictions adhered to, it was a successful tournament for all involved.
The tournament ended off with the open doubles title being won by Corcoran and his son Marc.
