Miss World South Africa bids farewell ahead of Miss World
SANDTON – Miss World South Africa said her final goodbyes before beginning her month-long preparation for the Miss World competition.
Miss World South Africa, Thulisa Keyi revealed how her preparations are going for the upcoming pageant at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton.
Keyi will be representing South Africa against contestants from 119 other countries in the competition, which is watched by millions of people worldwide. Keyi was crowned Miss World South Africa at the Miss South Africa pageant in May this year. At the time of taking the title, Keyi had never entered a pageant before but was a professional model for five years while completing her university studies.
She will be leaving for China next week, where this year’s competition will be hosted and will be there for about a month before the pageant takes place on 8 December.
She explained that she still has a lot of training to do, including fitness training and dance rehearsals for her talent portion of the competition.
As part of the pageant, Keyi has also started a campaign which she believes will assist others. “My Miss World Beauty with a Purpose project focuses on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and education and I am currently finalising the video shoot which explains the undertaking and what I would like to achieve with it.
“This is close to my heart as it comes from my own personal experience. I suffered trauma at a young age and used education as a tool to rise above my circumstances,” she explained.
Keyi believes she has the attributes to go all the way and take the crown: “My life’s journey has led me to this point. I have a passion to make a difference in other people’s lives and use my kindness and compassion to stand for something bigger than myself. I want to use my voice to share my story, connect and inspire people all over the world and be the driver of change. These are some of the attributes I believe a Miss World should possess.
Pageant coach and fashion stylist Werner Wessels is assisting Keyi ahead of her departure and said, “She has been working hard and is ready to take to the Miss World stage. She is going to do South Africa proud.”
This year’s Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green will be competing in the Miss Universe contest which will be held on 17 December in Bangkok, Thailand.
