Apology to Mark Park shopping centre

"The sourcing for the story was a social media post from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety Facebook page."

On Wednesday (May 20, 2020) we published a story under the headline “WATCH: Vereeniging shops caught selling rotten goods”.

The sourcing for the story was a social media post from the Gauteng Department of Community Safety Facebook page.

Embedded in the post was that “At another shop at the Mark Park mall the team discovered rotten fruit juices,” – this statement is not true, the rotten fruit juices were found in a shop outside Mark Park shopping centre.

In the visit to Mark Park shopping centre on 20 May 2020 by Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko and a group of delegates confirmed that the mall is safely complying with all lockdown regulations. In addition, the shopping centre’s retailers were found to be complying too, with no violations recorded.

Sedibeng Ster unreservedly apologises to Mark Park shopping centre and its retailers.
