Problems at old age center
We have run out of funds due to the non-payment from the Department of Social Development.
SHARPEVILLE. – Due to the disputes at the Department of Social Development at the Ikemeleng Elderly Service Center, the founder of the Non-Profit Organization, Dameris Malatjie was forced to close the center until further notice recently.
Malatjie took a decision even before some of the beneficiaries complained that they have not been fed for some time.
‘”There’s no money to buy provisions. We have run out of funds due to the non-payment from the Department of Social Development. Together with the board members we are waiting to be invited to Houtkop to sign for Service Level Agreement,” she said.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Malatji said they have not received or been invited by the department to sign. With more than 35 beneficiaries, she said the center cannot cope hence she opted to close the doors from May 11. However, another burning issues comes after some of the community members blame Malatjie that she had sold the washing machines, fridges and stove without the concern of few board members.
She, however told the media that the aim was to make space for new furniture.
