Sasol police officers take fight to taxi rank

In an effort to bring help closer to the community and strengthen teamwork between residents and government departments, Sasolburg SAPS took to a local rank during an imbizo.

SASOLBURG – Taxi operators and commuters in Sasolburg got more than just a ride to their respective locations.

This comes after men and women in blue, including key stakeholders, visited the rank in a high-impact community engagement imbizo.

Leading from the forefront, Sasolburg police Station Commander, Colonel Marike Galant was joined by Zamdela FCS Unit, Fezile Dabi District SCPU, Community Policing Forum (CPF), and several government departments, including Health, Road Safety, Education, and Social Development.

Other teams included the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Thuthuzela Care Centre, Curious Future Movement, and Assupol.

In a statement, Fezile Dabi police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said the aim was to bring help closer to the community and strengthen teamwork between departments.

“This initiative was about making services accessible and ensuring people know where to turn when they need help,” she said.

A major focus was on the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with community members urged to speak out and report abuse.

“Members of the community were also guided on support services and how to access help,” she said.

Following the imbizo, the gathered officers moved through the busy taxi rank, engaging directly with commuters and drivers, handing out pamphlets, and listening to concerns about service delivery.
