Midvaal Local Municipality commemorated Mandela Day by giving back to the community through a series of meaningful outreach initiatives as part of the annual 67 Minutes for Mandela Day campaign.

The MMC for Finance, Councillor Patricia Hutcheson, and the MMC for Public Safety, Councillor Chantal Gomes, started the day with a Fun Walk to raise funds for the Känguru Institute for the Disabled.

They were then joined by the MMC for Development and Planning, Councillor Thembi Maduna, for a visit to the Lerato Child and Youth Care Centre, where they spent time engaging with and supporting the children and staff.

The municipality was proud to partner with HarvestFresh Farms (Pty) Ltd, Lynca Meats, Nedbank, Leaf Fresh, and Klip Supermarket, whose generous contributions of food parcels and blankets helped support the children and the centre.

The final Mandela Day outreach took place at Ikhwezilokusa Psychiatric Home, where the Mayoral Committee, together with its partners, once again donated essential items to the facility.

Midvaal Local Municipality extends its sincere appreciation to its partners for their generous contributions, which will go a long way in supporting the operations of the Lerato Child and Youth Care Centre and Ikhwezilokusa Psychiatric Home.

These initiatives reflect Midvaal’s continued commitment to being a caring and compassionate institution, directly honouring the values embodied by former president Nelson Mandela.
