SEBOKENG.- The Sebokeng South African Police Service (SAPS) and several stakeholders organised a “Christmas in February” event in Boiketlong recently.
Led by Station Commander Brigadier Thembekile Kubone, Sebokeng SAPS collaborated with various stakeholders, including YCPD, the Department of Education, the Department of Health (Oral, TB, BP), Emfuleni Public Safety, the Department of Community Safety, the Department of Correctional Services, Clinix Private Hospital, award-winning gospel artist Kgotso Makgalema, Lebohang Lifestyle, and INDIBAD.

The initiative aimed to celebrate “Christmas in February” with the community of Boiketlong and extend a helping hand to the underprivileged. Brigadier Kubone, who herself grew up in a shack, expressed her respect for those living in similar conditions. She encouraged the community, emphasising that one’s ultimate destination matters more than their origins.
During the event, the station commander adopted an 8-year-old boy and presented him with a gift box containing a T-shirt, jeans, sweets, and toiletries. Various government departments offered services to the community, including TB and HIV/AIDS testing, blood pressure checks, and other health-related assistance.
The Department of Correctional Services raised awareness about parolees, and speeches were delivered by guest speakers. Additionally, gifts and food hampers were distributed to 13 families.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane reported that more than 100 community members received clothing, while 100 sanitary towels were provided to attending teenagers. Additionally, school bags and shoes were distributed to fifteen learners. The event saw the participation of approximately 300 community members.
