Funding crisis halts feeding for 28 cat colonies

Sustaining 28 feral cat colonies is a monumental task that pushes local rescuer Farzana Ismail to her limits.

VANDERBIJLPARK – “I fear I’ve reached a breaking point. We are at a crossroads where it is truly do-or-die.” These are the heavy words of Farzana Ismail, the heart behind The Feral Carer NPC.

Since 2015, what began as an act of compassion has snowballed into a mammoth mission: feeding approximately 400 community cats across 28 sites every single day.

But today, that mission is at a standstill. Due to a critical lack of funds, the project has been put on hold.“Every month is an uphill battle,” Farzana shares.

“Without the community’s support, these rescue endeavors simply cannot continue. I firmly believe it takes a village to transform the lives of these underprivileged cats.”

Because the task of maintaining these colonies is so vast, The Feral Carer cannot accept surrenders of cats or kittens. The focus must remain on the survival of the 400 lives already depending on her.

With near-daily vet visits and rising food costs, the expenses have become exorbitant.
