MKP demands justice for school assault case

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has called for urgent action after an 11-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted by another learner’s father on school grounds in Sebokeng.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) is calling for immediate action and for justice to be served after the alleged brutal assault of a girl (11) by another student’s father at a school in Zone 14.

On March 18, members of the party and the community, in solidarity with the family, walked peacefully to the Sedibeng West District office and the Sebokeng SAPS, where they delivered a memorandum of grievances.

The walk was led by Buhle ‘Mama Africa’ Tshomela, head of GBV under MKP in the Gauteng Province. Tshomela said the memorandum serves as a formal legal complaint and demand for intervention following the deeply disturbing incident.

“The conduct in question is not merely a disciplinary issue. It constitutes criminal behaviour, violates the constitutional rights of a child, and raises serious questions regarding the school’s duty of care and safeguarding obligations.”

Tshomela said what is more aggravating is the fact that the incident happened on school premises. She said that the matter raises questions about security and access control on school premises, the protection of learners from adult aggression, and the school’s response protocols when learners are threatened or harmed.

“This act represents a gross breach of acceptable conduct within an educational environment and amounts to the intimidation of a child by an adult within a protected institutional space,” Tshomela said.

She added that schools are expected to maintain strict control over access to learners and ensure that no adult is permitted to threaten or harm a child under the school’s supervision.

The party believes that if adults can enter school premises and directly confront or assault learners, the school as a safe educational environment is fundamentally compromised.

The memorandum was received by Jabulani Ngwenya, Chief Education Specialist at the Sedibeng West District office, on behalf of the Chief Director. The MKP subsequently handed the same memorandum in at the Sebokeng SAPS.
