SEBOKENG.- “The people we serve cannot be inconvenienced. The municipality must solve people’s problems, even if it means providing temporary solutions to ease their daily lives.” said ELM Mayor, Hassan Mako.

As part of what is said to be his ongoing commitment to identifying and addressing service delivery challenges, Mako conducted an oversight visit at the corner of Matanzima and Moshoeshoe Streets in Sebokeng, Zone 12 last week.

Illegal dumping, has significantly contributed to blockages within the drainage system.
During the visit, Mako engaged municipal officials and requested a detailed explanation regarding the condition of the damaged road.

Officials reported that the challenges have been exacerbated by the construction of permanent structures over stormwater channels by property owners in the area, as well as illegal dumping, which has significantly contributed to blockages within the drainage system.
Officials must implement an immediate temporary solution to ensure that the road remains accessible and drivable.
“These factors have impeded the proper flow of stormwater and accelerated the deterioration of the road infrastructure.”
Following a technical explanation and discussions regarding the matter, including the impact of illegal walls associated with the Engine Filling Station and the adjacent building, The Dome, Mako instructed officials to implement an immediate temporary solution to ensure that the road remains accessible and drivable while a permanent resolution is being pursued.
The ELM appealed to residents, businesses, and property owners to refrain from illegal dumping and to work with the municipality in protecting critical infrastructure to ensure sustainable service delivery for all.
