SHARPEVILLE.- There was a hive of activities in Sharpeville as part of the Human Rights Day commemoration on Saturday.
Apart from the Human Rights Day political rally, there were also sporting activities to commemorate this day.
There was a Heroes 5km Human Rights Day Fun Run/Fun Walk.

This was organised by a group called ‘Sharpeville Is Not A Massacre’.
This organisation is trending on social media with the main purpose to create awareness that the township is not only about the Sharpeville massacre. This township has a rich history, politically, sports-wise (boxing and soccer), entertainment, and academically.
Back to the 5km Fun Run/Walk, the Sharpeville community, young and old, took to the streets to support this unique initiative, with everyone wearing a white T-shirt with the words ‘Heroes Fun Run/Walk’ in honour of the fallen heroes of the Sharpeville massacre in March 1960.
Despite the seriousness and painful memories of what happened on that day, the organisations decided to uniquely honour those fallen heroes.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Aubrey Lelimo and Sechaba Khaole, who are part of the people who are behind this initiative, said they were overwhelmed when hundreds of people turned out for this event.
They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that this is the second year they have hosted this Heroes 5km Human Rights Fun Run/Fun Walk.
They said this year’s event was a huge success, looking at the attendance.
