Bats, balls and lots of fun at mini cricket clinic

The cricket coach education is a critical aspect of overall game development.

The KFC mini cricket coaching session at the Port Shepstone Country Club last Saturday attracted 150 mini cricketers from six local schools.

The four-hour training session included batting, catching, throwing, bowling and fielding.

Horatius Sokhanyile (KZN Cricket Union/KFC mini cricket coordinator) said offering juniors top notch cricket coaching and following a structured coaching curriculum was the key objective of this initiative.

“The training is to develop the potential and abilities of all players enrolled in the programme, with the focus being on providing game time experience. I urge more junior cricketers to come and learn the game, make new friends, and develop their cricket talent.”

He pointed out that the education of coaches was also a critical aspect of overall game development and was regarded as a priority.

One parent commented that his son had found the session enjoyable. “He liked the more structured approach and found the targets to be beneficial in improving his skills. The coaches were helpful and made the environment a great place to learn.”

A young cricketer told the Herald the coaching has helped to develop his game, both technically and physically.

“This training has given me a clearer idea of the areas I need to improve,” he said.
