Metro police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said following a tip-off, the Toyota Cross’ owner voluntarily presented it for inspection.

“A forensic MicroDot examination subsequently confirmed that the vehicle’s identification details had been altered to conceal its true identity. It revealed the vehicle was linked to a theft case registered in Pretoria North. Officers seized the vehicle and booked it into police custody for safekeeping and further investigation,” said Zungu.

He added that the breakthrough highlights the critical role of inter-agency collaboration in combating vehicle cloning syndicates.
