A MOTORIST passing through Toti on Sunday night, 4 August encountered grass bales being pushed onto the N2.
Olive Lucas was travelling with her husband from Hibberdene to Toti when the car in front of them in the fast lane swerved to miss one of the bales at about 6.45pm. “We swerved as well and narrowly missed it,” she said.
“This happened south of Umkomaas and the bales were definitely pushed into the road. Someone told me the grass is wrapped up in wire to keep it in place. They are huge and pose a danger to motorists. People travelling along this stretch of the N2 need to be alert.”
The bales are grass cut by the municipality in the centre median that is rolled up for easy transport. Numerous bales littered the centre median on the N2 passing through Toti in recent weeks, but these have been removed.
