Neighbours fight crime in Almond Rd

More residents are urged to attend meetings to combat crime.

Since forming a neighbourhood crime prevention group in September, Almond Road residents have noticed an improvement in their fight against crime.

“It has been working very well and our meetings have been well attended by not only residents, but also the CCPO, Blue Security and Toti SAP,” said group chairman, Louise Marais.

“We request all people in the area and surrounding areas to join our venture to make our neighbourhood safe.” Meetings takes place at 10am at 96 Almond Road every second Saturday of the month, unless that day falls on a long weekend, then the meeting will be held on the third Saturday of the month.

“It’s important for people to come to these meetings. You can protect yourself if you are informed. You have also got to know your neighbour. We will also offer safety training because people don’t know what to do when they are victims of crime or whom to go to for help.

Our next meeting is at 10am on Saturday, 17 August and all are welcome to attend. We include every member’s details in our emergency contact list, which is available to members, as well as put each member on our email distribution list.”

Last month the Sun reported on Aart Verrips, an Almond Road resident who paid the cost to install an ‘eye-in-the-sky’ surveillance camera tower on his property.

“We have a deal with Blue Security that if we pay for one tower, they will install a second one free of charge. We will hopefully have our second tower installed within a month.

We then want to form an association to pay for these cameras to get monitored. This is only the start. We want towers all the way down to the business area in Warner Beach, so that it is safety all around for the residents.”
