Top athletes enjoy good results in Mtunzini Bush run
The route was a challenge, as it took runners on tar road, along mangrove swamps and forest single tracks, with a kilometre stretch on the beach.
A GROUP Amanzimtoti Athletics Club athletes took a drive to Mtunzini to compete in the fifth 16km bush run on Sunday, 11 August.
The route was a challenge, as it took runners on tar road, along mangrove swamps and forest single tracks, with a kilometre stretch on the beach.
The results were excellent with Chris Stange coming fourth in his age group and 18th overall. Following hot on his heels was Ewoud Grobler, who was 10th in his age group. Well done to all athletes who participated in this challenging run.

Athletes completing in any road races must remember that their Toti vest with age category on the front and back must be visible and only plain black running shorts are permitted.
This year’s Goss and Balfe marathon is strictly a pre-entry event and entries close on Monday, 30 September. The race is on Sunday, 6 October at 6am. A free train ride will take the 21km athletes to Illfracombe station and the marathon runners to the start in Scottburgh. Both races end at Hutchison Park. Entry is R130 for the marathon and R90 for the half marathon All athletes will receive a goodie bag and T-shirts. Cut-off time for the marathon is 5.30pm and for the half 3.30pm. The weekly time trial is on Wednesdays from Hutchison Park for the walkers (8km) starting at 5.30pm, and runners (4km and 8km) starting at 6pm. On Saturdays there is an 11km run/walk from Hutchison Park at 5.30am for the walkers and 6am for runners. Some interesting facts about thus year’s comrades up run
The 2013 Comrades Marathon will indeed be remembered as one of the toughest races in recent history. Searing heat and strong headwinds in the second half of the race saw as many as 33% of the Comrades field bail. The CMA is in the process of replacing its online entry, with the aim of making the registration process more efficient. Claude Mashiywa was the first South African in 21years to win the up run, breaking the foreign domination of the up run. The 2014 Comrades Marathon is a down run which takes place on Sunday, 1 June 2014. Entries for the 2014 Comrades Marathon open on Sunday, 1 September and close on Saturday, 30 November.
Upcoming events include the Capital Climb 15km run on Saturday, 17 August.
 Cross country champs in full stride
TOTI Athletics Club once again excelled at the 2013 KZN cross-country champs held in Pinetown on Saturday, 10 August.
The club bagged five gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.
The 2013 KZN champions in their respective age groups are Lee-Anne Blake (girls 12), Hlengiwe Zuma (sub-youth girls), Lisha van Onselen (youth girls), Noel Saville (men 70-74) and Thierry Pletinckx (men 45-49). Other podium finishers were Lawrence Herron (silver men 50-54), Xolani Nocanda (silver men 40-44) and Lindo Cele (bronze boys 13). The club congratulates these athletes on a wonderful performance at the KZN champs.
