Business sponsors educational aids for matrics
A local business has taken action to combat widespread shortages of educational material by sponsoring a school in the Toti area.
Umboginitwini-based company DES-ign, the largest independent automotive design company in South Africa, has sponsored past matric exam papers for the entire matric class of Kwamakhutha Comprehensive High School.
“DES-ign sponsored R20 000 towards the purchase of mathematics and maths literacy past paper exam packs and study guides through Paperight’s print-on-demand service to give to each of the 211 matric students for 2013,” said marketing co-ordinator, Marie-Louise Rouget.
“In addition to these valuable resources, the sponsorship included valuable instructional titles for Kwamakhutha’s teachers, such as Using Media in Teaching, Learners and Learning and Creating People Centred Schools.”
Kwamakhutha Comprehensive High School was selected due to the close proximity to DES-ign’s head offices in Toti and with the desire to assist these young high school pupils to reach their full potential before joining the job market.
“On a professional level, we sorely need a generation of engineers and smart thinkers in South Africa and getting a good matric is the first step in getting there,” said John Mulgrew, Managing Director of DES-ign. “I hope this great partnership with Paperight will help in some way to give the KwaMakhutha High pupils what they need to get great results in matric.”
