Kingsway won’t get traffic calming
Despite numerous ongoing requests from the public for traffic calming measures along Kingsway, council will not place speed humps on the road.

That is the official word from senior manager of traffic engineering, Ntoh Luthuli in response to a query from ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.
Kingsway has been the scene of many accidents, often with fatalities, over the years due to vehicle exceeding the speed limit, especially in Warner Beach.
“Kingsway is considered a high order road (class 3 road) in the eThekwini Municipality’s road network system,” said Luthuli. “As such, the council policy precludes the implementation of speed humps on this road.
The primary functionality of Kingsway is to serve mobility purpose, that is to move or transport as much passengers and goods as possible from one point to another over a short period of time.
The alleged speeding and irresponsible driver behaviour are enforcement issues and has been referred to the head of Metro Police for any action deemed necessary.”
