It’s time to take crime in hand

EDITOR -My wife and I were inspecting the great new mountain bike trail along the Amanzimtoti River, west of Hutchison Park early on Monday morning.
A man in his early 20s approached us and drew a knife on my wife, demanding a cell phone.
We had our walking sticks and met his challenge, upon which he backed off and disappeared. We immediately alerted the nearby CCPO office, who sent guards after him.We reported the matter to the Amanzimtoti police station and hope they show some interest in the case.
I think the time has come to form vigilante groups to work with the police who can’t be everywhere – old military sticks of five armed men to regularly patrol hotspots at beaches and Hutchison Park will give the thieves something to think about and help make our town safer.
