Lions prove they’re small in number, big in heart

THE Lions Club of Kingsburgh has scooped the prestigious club of the year award in District 410C, which comprises 35 clubs - for the second year in a row.

To the delight of the Lions, along with the Club of the Year 2012/2013 award, the club also won the Paddy McMenemy award (Hearing) 2012/2013 and the Geoff Chettie award (Secretary) 2012/2013.

“I consider the club of the year award as my accolade, as it was achieved under my leadership,” said past president, Lion Helen Toward.

Only 15 awards were handed out at the District's mid-year conference at the beginning of November at Sierra Ranch, outside Mooi River. “It is an absolutely tremendous achievement considering the size of our club. We are only six members,” said Lion Gwen Ellis.

The club has been involved in a number of projects in the community such as for the hearing and sight impaired; diabetes clinics; environment, children's services and the elderly. “Over and above our projects, we are also involved in the sector policing forum and Toti Conservancy. We believe, we should be as involved in the community as possible. Every year, we also lay a wreath for Remembrance Day.”
