Adams College makes KZN top 10 schools

TWENTY nine matrics of Adam College in Adams Mission earned six distinctions or more, placing the school among the top 10 KZN schools in the 2013 examinations.

The school shared the accolade with Durban Girls High School (44 distinctions); Westville Girls High School (44); Danville Park Girls High (43), Star College (38); Crawford College (37); La Lucia (37); Westville Boys High (36); Adams College (29); Kharwastan Secondary (26); Northlands Girls High (25) and Orient Islamic (25).

Adams achieved a 98% pass rate after some 247 pupils sat for the exams.

Overall, the school achieved 522 A's with over 200 pupils achieving bachelor passes. Two pupils, Siphesihle Makhanya and Amanda Chonco both obtained 100% in accounting.

Principal, Thulani Khumalo expressed his gratitude to teachers and parents. “I am really excited about this achievement. I must highlight the dedication, determination and high work rate of pupils and the commitment of teachers who dedicated extra hours. It shows that previously disadvantaged does not mean you have to stay disadvantaged. We achieved these quality results not having all the best equipment. Imagine what we could do if we had everything.”

In a message to the school, former pupil and African Union head, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma congratulated the school. “It’s a great help to have teachers who are ambitious, especially the principal. Thanks to the teachers for inspiring pupils to put their best foot forward. I am proud of my alma mater. Continue the good work.”

Former students along with the school governing body formed Adams College Development Fund, a trust led by chairman, Prof Sihawukele Ngubane which came up with a multi-phase school development concept, the 3R Project (Revitalisation, Redeveloping and Repositioning of Adams College) This is a funding framework to secure the heritage, legacy and future of Adams College.

“This achievement is in line with our 3R Project because it shows that as much as we are looking at infrastructure development, in the meantime we are on track as core business is concerned as we are dishing out excellent education and we are achieving quality results,” said said Prof Sihawukele Ngubane.
