Finger-licking music set to jazz it up

BACK by popular demand, the eight piece jazz band, Platform Jazz returns to entertain at the The Aliwal Theatre in Umkomaas on Sunday, 23 February at 2.30 pm.

The line-up features Cathy ‘Hotlips’ Peacock on trumpet, Dunc ‘The Hunc’ Wooldridge on trombone, Ian ‘Lightning fingers’ Holloway on clarinet, Andreas ‘Bullfiddle’ Kappen on double bass,‘Bashful’ Bruce Baker on drums, Jono Judge on sax, the one and only Melvin Peters on piano, and the velvet-voiced Shelley McLean on vocals.

The band will play jazz tunes from films and musicals spanning from pre-1920s to current times. The performance includes such evergreens as ‘Night and day’ and ‘My favourite things’ from The Sound Of Music, ‘The Bare necessities’ from the Jungle Book, ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ from Toy Story, ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ from The Wizard of Oz, and hard-hitting fabulous big band numbers ‘Straighten up and fly right’ and ‘Hello Dolly.’ Don’t miss these outstanding musicians in action, their music is finger-clicking good.

There is only one show on Sunday 23 February. The venue opens 60 minutes before show. Tea, coffee and a bar is available. No alcohol may be brought on to the premises.
