School shines with silver award

The eight principles are constitution, service standard and targets, access, courtesy, information, openness and transparency, dealing with complaints and best value.

Kamalinee Primary School’s (KPS) principal, staff and governing body members were elated to win the a silver award and second in the province in the prestigious Minister’s Service Excellence Awards for 2014.

The school received a silver trophy, certificate, clock, resource books and Casio calculators at a function at Sibaya Conference Centre.

“A team of Kamalinee teachers consisting of Sagree Pillay, Annamarie Naicker, Loshnee Govinder and Minesha Singh worked on the portfolio, which detailed evidence of the implementation of the eight Batho Pele Principles at the school,” said principal, Jagatheesan Naidoo.

The eight principles are constitution, service standard and targets, access, courtesy, information, openness and transparency, dealing with complaints and best value.

“The exercise was time-consuming and the interview that followed was rigorous, but it gave the entire school and all its stakeholders a clear picture of the our many strengths and the few areas for development.

We are very proud to have performed well in all eight principles. Much has to be said of the excellent management of the school and its vision for the future.

An award of this nature is a tribute to the committed, enthusiastic and innovative members of the SMT, staff and student governing body members.

Our motto is KPS succeeds not because it is big or because it has been long established, but because there are teachers in it who live it, dream it, sleep it, believe in it and build great future plans for it.”

The second place follows the school’s third place at the awards last year. Everyone is now geared to winning gold next year.
