SAPS spoils seniors ahead of Women’s Day

They were also given safety tips.

IN celebration of Women’s Day, the residents of Mooi Hawens Old Age Home in Winklespruit were given tips on safety and and a treat of tea and cake by members of Toti SAPS on Friday, 8 August.

Mooi Hawens social worker, Elize Potgieter acknowledged the residents as the ‘most important people in the community’ and that they were blessed to have the police talk to them.

“It’s Women’s Month, we want to spoil the residents,” said Capt Charlene van der Spuy, Toti SAPS communications officer.

However, before the light-hearted festivities began, she gave residents tips on personal safety and how to safeguard their possessions. Capt van der Spuy talked about an incident where a resident carrying a large sum of money was attacked and robbed on the premises. “Trust no-one, only yourself. Be vigilant at all times as there are a lot of opportunists out there.”

She also advised residents not to reveal details of their valuables and to be careful of people offering help when withdrawing money.

The morning celebration concluded with a musical item and several lucky draw prizes.
