KINGSBURGH Child and Family Welfare Society acknowledged the women who support its thrift shop at its Warner Beach premises throughout the year.
Last week, to commemorate Women’s Day, the women received small tokens of appreciation from the organisation. “We acknowledge women in our community who support our thrift shop on an ongoing basis. They purchase items from our shop, which is income-generating for us,” said senior social worker, Sandra Govender.
As the prices of items sold are reasonable, the women are able to re-sell them in order to supplement their own incomes, to help sustain their families. “They probably feel that what they do is a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. This income-generating project in turn helps supplement our food budget for the families we support.”
Welfare appeals to the community for donations of items in good condition. If you have any household goods, clothing or non-perishable items call 031-916 2274 during office hours, 8am to noon.
