Cops collar criminals with drugs at beach

They were arrested in possession of whoonga.

TOTI SAPS secured 24 successful arrests in the last week, from Tuesday, 5 August to Monday, 11 August.

According to communications officer, Capt Charlene van der Spuy, a liquor outlet was charged with non-compliance and a second liquor outlet was charged and closed for non-compliance.

The arrests were for: Intent to do grievous bodily harm – one; fraud – one; theft – two; shoplifting – 10; warrant of arrest on a theft case – one; dealing in counterfeit goods – one; dealing in liquour – one.

Two people were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and whoonga. They were seen carrying a large black bag at the toilets at Toti main beach by a member of the

community, who alerted the police. “They were arrested in possession of two straws of whoonga, a DVD player, two cables and a screwdriver.

They were charged and appeared in court, but the case was postponed for further investigation.

In a second, unrelated incident, police were patrolling in Winklespruit when they noticed two people smoking. As they approached them, they started running. They caught one and on searching him, found two slopes of dagga in his pocket. He was arrested, charged and sent to court. He was found guilty and sentenced to pay an admission of guilt fine of R500 or 50 days’ imprisonment.
