Council needs to act on dumping
If council does not react to this problem, can someone with a bit of clout intervene or give us a number that we can harass?

EDITOR – Thank you to council for clearing out the bush to prevent further criminal, prostitution and vagrant activity but can the local government now clean up their vacant properties?
I have been phoning and begging the operators in the illegal dumping (031-322-2002) department for over a year to clean up the dumping ground in Camp Road next to the pump station.
This area is home to small buck, mongoose, rare birds, reptiles and so on. Has council no shame for the animals that must live in this dump and also for holidaymakers to see this unsightly piece of land right next to the beach? We are asking for our local council to get a professional environmentalist out to this area and then advise the community if this is satisfactory. If not, then what will be done and when is this going to be cleared? Surely you can erect a sign reading ‘Dumping will lead to you being fined’ and also erect a boom.
In the same area next to the pump station is a manhole that unmarked tankers are dumping liquid waste into. They sometimes leave the lid off, which means little animals can fall into this hole and die trying to get out. What waste is being dumped into this manhole and where does this manhole eventually lead to? No control is being done of how much and what waste is being dumped into this hole. The environmentalist must also brief us on this issue as common sense tells us that a metered valve system should be erected to prevent liquid waste spillage or is this also illegal waste dumping which council is not controlling?
If council does not react to this problem, can someone with a bit of clout intervene or give us a number that we can harass? This is unacceptable. Why must we beg government to do their jobs? We pay your salaries via rates and taxes.
