Criminals’ convictions a feather in Toti police’s cap

Two men were collectively sentenced to 48 years in prison.

TWO men will effectively serve 30 years and 18 years behind bars for house robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, which occurred in Toti in 2013.

“The incident occurred in May, 2013 and two men were arrested shortly afterwards,” said Capt Charlene van der Spuy, communications officer at Toti SAPS.
The men were sentenced in Durban Regional Court in November. Senzo Shezi (35) received 15 years for house robbery and 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

His co-accused, Bongani Brian Gumede (33) received 15 years for house robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a further three years for resisting arrest.
“The management of Toti SAPS applauds the investigating officer, W/O KD Zungu, his colleague W/O TC Nyawose and the investigating team who assisted with the arrest and securing of a conviction.

We also thank the secondhand goods dealers in Warner Beach for their assistance in the case and in the fight against crime by adhering to the regulations of the Second Hand Goods Act 6 of 2009. While Toti SAPS yielded many successes in joint operations throughout 2014, the successful outcome of this case has added a feather to our cap.”

“It is with these sentiments that the community is urged to work closely with police to curb serious and violent crime in our area. We encourage the public to use the crime reporting boards at Pick n Pay in Winklespruit, Arbour Crossing and Virgin Active to assist police.”

Toti SAPS management pledges to adopt a zero tolerance towards criminal activity in the area in 2015.
