Toti golfer re-elected as regional president

A lot of clubs are battling financially, but in my region it's pretty stable.

Amanzimtoti Country Club member, Brenda Morgan has been re-elected as president of South Coast Region (SCR) golf.

She held the position seven years ago for a two-year stint in charge of 13 golf clubs from Toti to Kokstad.

“My main job is to look after women’s, junior and development golf and report on clubs,” said Brenda, who also sits on the KZN Ladies Golf Association’s executive committee.

She is in charge of running competitions, including four major SCR and the annual women’s inter-club, which was well hosted in Toti last year.

“This year the competition is in eShowe, before moving back to the South Coast at Selbourne.

Nothing’s really changed since my last term. A lot of clubs are battling financially, but in my region it’s pretty stable.

My main concerns are there aren’t enough women golfers and we are pushing development golf and trying to promote it a lot. Our hardest challenge is growing numbers.”

One solution is to co-ordinate with schools, but transport to golf clubs is often a problem.

Brenda was born in Vryheid and moved to Toti in 1974 after school. In 1985 she married Terry and she has a son, Sean.

Celebrating her 60th birthday recently, she is looking forward to her retirement from the banking sector on Friday, 27 February.

At Toti golf club she was the women’s captain for three years from 2005 and held the secretary post on the committee for two years.

She has won a number of competitions, most notably the inter-club with Shelley Naylor in eShowe in 2012 and was crowned women’s club champ and matchplay champ for two years.

“My handicap is 12, but that will soon go up to 13,” said a chuffed Brenda.
