Jona Vaughan celebrates 30 years

Home provides 24-hour care for 84 residents.

JONA Vaughan Home, a project of Durban and Coastal Mental Health (DCMH) proudly celebrates 30 years of excellent service for persons with mental disability.

DCMH continued with the vision of Bert Tunmer, who through a personal experience 30 years ago of having a child with mental disability, realised the need for the home.

With the ongoing support of the Amanzimtoti Lions, 31 Club and the community, Jona Vaughan Home still creates a future of possibilities for children and adults with profound intellectual disability.
The home provides 24-hour holistic care for 84 residents in a safe and secure environment by offering nutritional meals, medical management and an innovative stimulation programme that was the recipient of two national awards last year.

Jona Vaughan Home’s 30th birthday coincided with the 75th anniversary of DCMH and a fun-filled family day was hosted at the centre in September.

“This memorable event was made possible by our charming residents, their families, members of the Lions club, volunteers from LVSA Helping Hands and DCMH. We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to the Amanzimtoti community for their generosity, kindness and support that they have shown our residents for the past 30 years,” said the home’s Fiona Anderson.
