It’s crunch time for Toti’s matric class of 2018

Their heads will be buried in their books for the next several few weeks as they contemplate their final school exams.

The matric class of 2018 is facing its final hurdle, with the final National Senior Certificate exams having kicked off this week. While the grade 12s reflected on trials as a challenging hurdle, their heads will be buried in their books for the next several few weeks as they contemplate their final school exams.

“Kingsway High School once again had an exciting and successful academic year,” said principal Sandra du Toit. “Our class of 2018 is made up of a total of 197 grade 12 pupils, of which 130 are invited to our prestige academic awards function on Thursday, 18 October. Their achievements are based on the year mark, including the trials marks.”

Four pupils will be awarded academic honours (distinctions in all seven subjects), with 19 pupils set to receive academic colours (an average of 80% and above) and three their half-colours (distinctions in four or more subjects).

“We are very pleased and proud of our top achievers among all the others who also worked very hard during Saturday classes, Winter and Spring holiday school, and afternoon extra lessons in most subjects. This resulted in a substantial improvement in the overall results.

Due to our dedicated staff, we trust that our pupils are academically well equipped and ready for the final hurdle. Kingsway High School wishes all the matric pupils from the Toti community every success for the national senior exams.”

How did your trial exams go, and what are your prospects for finals?

“Trials were good but a bit tough. It was a lot of time to focus for three hours at a time. All my subjects were fine and there was nothing out of the ordinary or too difficult for me.” Joshua Henwood – Kingsway

“Trials was a good motivator. Before trials I was not in the study groove. I dropped 15% in physics, so I will give my studies more attention for finals.” Shaun Schoeman – Kingsway

“Most of them were good. Physics 2 was difficult but overall they were good. Trials really tested my abilities, so finals will be better. I will give more attention to maths and physics.” Tyler de Wet – Kingsway

Amanzimtoti High School principal, Louise Lemmer said the school offered a winter school in the July holidays, which many keen matrics made use of. “Our mathematics department has worked exceptionally hard, offering extra lessons at 6am during the week. We applaud them for their dedic-ated effort and expect see the fruits of their labour in our final results,” she said.

“The school expects great results from our group of 126 matrics. The majority were able to improve their marks during their trial exams and we are delighted that 14 pupils achieved ‘A’ aggregates during trials.”

Mrs Lemmer said the school has been blessed with a wonderful group of matrics. “We wish them all the best with their final exams and are confident that their hard work and dedication will reflect in their results,” she beamed.

“Compared to the June exams, some of the trials papers were easier. I was close to meeting my aims in trials, so now the motivation is on for finals to make up for where I missed marks before. It’s stressful knowing these are our last exams, but I have a nicely spaced out timetable.” Jamie Manning – Toti

Sterkte word toegewens aan alle matrikulante

Kuswag Skool se skoolhoof, Chris Lindeque het gesê die Proefeksamen is ’n groot mylpaal in elke matrikulant se skoolloopbaan, want dit is die finale pylvak na die eindeksamen waarna hulle al 12 jaar uitsien. “Onderwysers en ons matrikulante het deurlopend hard gewerk om die ideaal van uitmuntende akademiese prestasies en ‘n 10% slaagsyfer te verwesenlik.

Sommige was suksesvol in die proefeksamen, terwyl ander tot die besef gekom het dat nog baie harde werk voorlê. Puik vakprestasies is behaal deur ons twee ‘karperde’, Henno Grobler en Ulrich von Landsberg wat deur hulle hele hoërskoolloopbaan wipplank vir die eerste plek gery het.

Henno Grobler was met ‘n kort-kop van 87% gemiddeld voor Ulrich, wat 85% gemiddeld vir die proefeksamen behaal het. Na ’n proses van finale hersiening, motivering en afronding glo ons dat Kuswag se matrieks gereed is vir die finale eksamen.

Ons wens elke matrikulant en onderwyser in ons skool en ook in ons buurskole net die beste toe vir hierdie belangrike eksamen wat nou voor die deur lê. Die eerste CAT-vraestel (prakties) is reeds afgehandel en volgens ons leerders was dit moeilik, maar hulle is hoopvol vir goeie uitslae. Ons boodskap aan alle matrikulante is dat harde werk, toewyding en ‘n sterk geloof die bestanddele is vir sukses. Kom ons lewer ‘Net ons beste’.
