
Umbumbulu police recovered 13 stolen cows after a shoot-out with the stock thieves on Wednesday, 20 November.
Capt TM Ntobela and W/O EM Zuke received a compliant of the theft in progress at Mtshingwane in the Madundube area and responded. On arrival, shots were fired towards the police and the officers returned fire. Four suspects fled the scene on foot and no-one sustained any injuries.
Twelve cows were recovered alive at the scene of crime, however, one cow was already slaughtered and loaded in the back of a bakkie, which was found at the scene and allegedly used by the suspects.
“I am pleased by the quick response of our members. They managed to prevent a serious stock theft crime and recover all the stolen cows. We are committed to eradicating any stock theft in the eThekwini Outer South (EOS) Cluster and I am also sure we will be making arrests soon in this matter,” said acting EOS cluster commander, Brigadier MVP Mgobhozi.
