A sticky-fingered gardener got more than what he bargained for when CCPO crime fighters apprehended him on Monday, 27 July.
CCPO committee member, George Snodey said, “The CCPO received a report of a suspicious person hiding what appeared to be a TV wrapped in a sheet, in Whitfield drive, St Winifreds. It was discovered that the suspect, who was working near the crime scene had stolen a TV and placed it into a garden service bag. A vigilant neighbour witnessed the incident and alerted CCPO. CCPO, ET Rapid Response and Blue Security responded to the call. The suspect arrived as a passenger in a garden service vehicle to pick up the TV. A description of the suspect was obtained. He was detained at Amanzimtoti SAPS and the TV recovered.”
Snodey appeals to residents to be cautious of the gardening services they use.
“Garden service companies also need to be aware of the people they employ and ensure that they have identity documents, proof of residents and no criminal records. Without this vital knowledge it would be difficult to recover items and apprehend suspects in the event of a crime,” he added.
