Amanzimtoti High raises funds for Baby Liané
The school aims to sell 1 000 doughnuts.
AMANZIMTOTI High School is hosting a fundraiser this Friday, March 4, where they aim to sell 1 000 doughnuts to assist with Liané Rossouw’s medical costs. Liané was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a type of cancer, in December 2020.

Gideon Cordier, who works at Amanzimtoti High School, said there are also bracelets available.
“Ten days after her diagnosis, she suddenly stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated. Unfortunately, the resuscitation took longer than it was supposed to and she was placed on a ventilator for just over a week. As a result, Liané sustained brain damage and also lost her eyesight. She also doesn’t have use of her lower legs due to where her tumour was located. Liané has since suffered seizures which seems to be under control now. Although they do expect that she might be having subclinical seizures,” said Gideon.
Liané has to see a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and a dietician. She is currently being treated by a neurologist, a neurosurgeon, an oncologist, an otorhinolaryngologist, a cardiologist as well as a pulmonologist.
“She has lost her ability to properly swallow and now has a feeding tube in her tummy. She has fortunately been in remission for about three months now,” he said.
Liané currently needs neurologist and oncologist check-ups every three months, blood tests, routine electroencephalogram tests, specialised feeding tubes and syringes, and anti-epileptic medicine. The doughnuts cost R8 each and any donations can be paid into the school account, with Liane Rossouw Fundraiser as a reference. Bracelets cost R35 each and can be ordered by calling O’lene on 079 676 2906.
