After three intense rounds Esihle Mnyaka claimed victory, representing Isipingo Civic Library and Windy Heights Primary School with pride. Closely trailing was Anelisa Gumede, who came second, representing Junagarth Primary School and Merebank Library.

This year’s quiz tasked seven learners with reading two books, Victim to Victory: My Suffocated Journey of Life by Samkelisiwe Msomi, and Family is Love by Bongani Mkhwanazi. They were then asked questions by the quizmaster, testing the learners’ memory, understanding and knowledge of the books, while scorekeepers and adjudicators kept track of the number of correct answers each learner scored.
Librarian at Grosvenor Library, Somikazi Bonani, said that such quizzes help the learners develop important life skills.
“Quiz competitions promote learning, improve memory and concentration, build confidence, encourage healthy competition, develop critical thinking and encourage reading and research,” said Bonani.
She further said these competitions are about making learning enjoyable for all.
At a district level, the two top learners, Esihle and Anelisa made it through the regional component of the competition and the pair will represent their district in the next round.
