Umbumbulu men arrested in sting operation

Two guns, believed to have previously been used in a murder, were confiscated during the operation.

AN INTELLIGENCE sting operation in Umbumbulu netted two men for having unlicensed firearms recently.

The men were caught with two guns with two magazines with 15 bullets and were arrested in the operation conducted by the metro police’s Trio Crimes Unit, together with SAPS. Metro police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the firearms are alleged to have been previously used in a murder.

“We will continue to hold such operations throughout the city to curb crime. When we conduct sting operations, the community’s safety is always prioritised,” said Zungu.

Metro police head commissioner Sibonelo Mchunu commended the police members for the arrest. He called on residents to work with law enforcement to report crime in their communities.

The men will appear in court soon.
