George Snodey of the Community Crime Prevention Organisation Amanzimtoti (CCPO) said that at around 16:20, a CCPO officer observed a Toyota Etios travelling at high speed recklessly along the N2 South, approaching Athlone Park.

“The officer started following the vehicle while calling for assistance via the CCPO radio network. As the vehicle approached the bend near Kynoch Road, driving into oncoming traffic, it crashed into a blue BMW and a white Honda,” said Snodey.

Three men then alighted from the Toyota Etios and fled on foot, but the CCPO officer managed to apprehend the driver.

“It was established that the vehicle was stolen in Berea. Paramedics attended to the injured passengers of the other vehicles. The suspect and the stolen vehicle were handed to the police,” he said.

Snodey thanked ET Rapid Response, metro police and SAPS for their assistance.
