Fête brings Christmas in June to Athlone Park [Pictures]

Funds generated from the Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre's fête and other fundraisers aid in the upkeep of the home's grounds, buildings and other projects.

CHRISTMAS came early for residents and attendants of the Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre’s fête on June 29 at their premises in Athlone Park.

The centre has been hosting the fête annually for over 25 years, with the only break being the years 2019 to 2022 because of Covid-19. Poinsettia Park’s community services manager, Wendy Lloyd, said there was an amazing spirit of happiness and goodwill, with old friends meeting up and enjoying the day.

“Each year, a different theme is chosen as it gives the fête a lovely fun atmosphere. We rely on suggestions from residents, friends and family,” said Wendy, explaining the Christmas theme.

The purpose of the fête and jumble sale is to fundraise for projects, suggested by residents in the complex, which include maintenance and upgrading of security.

“Our sincere thank you to the public and businesses who support us and make our fundraising possible, and then a big thank you to the residents and staff for working very hard. Without the tremendous support, we would not be successful,” she said.

Poinsettia Park Retirement Centre will have a jumble sale on November 9 and welcomes donations to this fundraiser. For more information, contact Wendy at 082 718 5026.
