Jabulani hosts fundraising fête
The Amanzimtoti community and Jabulani residents had lots of stalls set up, with home-made items and eats to buy.
DESPITE not receiving the support they hoped for, Jabulani – The Kingsburgh Welfare organisation for the Aged, hosted a fun-filled fundraising fête on their premises on November 12.
The Amanzimtoti community and Jabulani residents had lots of stalls set up, with home-made items and eats to buy. Their three charity shops were also open, selling bric-a-brac, clothing and crafts.
To encourage people to support their event, they posted two Christmas videos on social media and had hand-made banners pointing people towards the market.

Jabulani’s in-house committee chairperson, Kevin Reid, said it was sad to see that some of the vendors cancelled on the day of the event. “The funds that were raised were a welcoming amount. However, if the community had arrived as we were expecting, we would have had many more smiles and plenty more sold,” he said.
Jabulani thanks their sponsors, those who did their part in this fête, as well as those that set up their stalls. “Those who could not make it due to situations, we appreciate it,” said Reid.
The proceeds from Jabulani’s fêtes go towards the upgrading of flats. “Every time someone moves out, the flat is repainted, tiled and refurbished,” said Jabulani’s Liz Naudé.
Debbie Hepburn, one of the residents who manages the library, appeals for donations of books, magazines as well as book shelves for more storage. Donations can be dropped off at their premises, 6 Sutton Lane in Warner Beach.
There are currently no more events planned for the rest of the year, however, their charity shops are open. Enquiries can be made at their reception.
