The baby, dumped in a plastic bag and estimated to be around four hours old at the time, was found by grass cutters in the morning. They quickly called the police. Operation Bobbi Bear‘s Eureka Olivier and Toti Community Assist‘s Dalene Heath were also called out to assist. After an assessment, the infant was taken to hospital where Olivier confirmed that she responded well to treatment.

“The police first need to try and locate the mother. The baby needs to be medically cleared and social workers and the court will get involved. She has no records, no birth certificate or clinic card. All of this will take time and she will have to be kept very safe until all of this has happened and is finalised,” said Olivier.

A child abandonment case was opened for investigation.
